Aatmjyoti Residential Blind Girls’ School, Gwalior (M.P.), is a non-profit organization run and managed by an all-women staff. The objective of this school is to provide visually impaired girls with a support system based on a holistic learning pattern where they can learn to read and write, as well as get exposure to various skills such as art & craft, sports, music, etc. to become confident and self-reliant individuals.
Aatmjyoti Residential Blind Girls school currently has 54 visually challenged girls studying in classes from LKG to 6th standard. The school takes care of all their educational expenses, including lodging, boarding, food, clothing and medical facilities. Apart from learning to read and write using braille, the school also offers them avenues to become self-reliant by learning various skills such as music, dance, yoga, sports, cooking, art & craft, and computers through an integrated system consisting of academics and co-curricular activities. After passing out from the school, these girls are assisted to further their education by joining various schools and colleges such as Saraswati Shishu Mandir. Nadi Gate, Gwalior, MLB School, Gwalior, VRJ College, Morar, Gwalior and Madhav College, Gwalior.
At present, there are three girls from the school studying in Madhav College and getting all the financial support from the school. The school takes pride in informing that some of these girls have done B.Ed. and M.Ed. in Special Education and joined the teaching staff of the school or various prestigious government or private institutions. Many of these girls are trained musicians (vocal and instrumental), yoga instructors, sportspersons (indoor and outdoor) and have also won several awards on state and national levels. One of the girls is a trained physiotherapist and provides her services to the school. The school has two 4-wheelers to take these girls to various schools and colleges. The school building is designed on a sustainable pattern and is solar-powered.
